Place: All over New York City
Wow, 6 years! The time has really flown by! I remember when I first saw him, the first few days of freshman year at college. He was sitting on the back of the couch wearing mesh shorts, a wrestling shirt from high school and Oakley sandals. He was holding a brown and white stuffed soccer ball and throwing it around his dorm's common room with some other people. I was visiting a friend who lived in that dorm. As I walked through the common room to get to my friend's room, I noticed how cute he was, and I made it my goal to meet him.
Well, as you may have guessed, I did meet him and we became fast friends. He attempted to help me study for calculus, which I was doing miserably in, and he would stay up late in the studio with me, often bringing me food, snacks, and much-needed encouragement. He was definitely a keeper based on his snacks-bringing-quality!
Year after year passed, we eventually moved in together during our last few years in college, graduated from college, moved from RI to NJ, and found jobs. Now we are playing "adult", both working for architecture firms and although he works MANY late nights, I am enjoying no more all-nighters in my 9-6 job!
During the last six years, we were always in school, or I was in the studio, or we were poor/jobless, so our anniversaries have consisted of quick dinners at Applebees or getting take-out in the studio. So this year, we thought we would make it "count" for all the years that we were lame.
And what better place to celebrate than in my personal favorite place, New York City. I had originally planned to have dinner and spend the night in the city, but Hum-z decided we should take the whole weekend, which of course, I didn't say no to. Hum-z got out of work late (as usual), and we took the train to the city. By the time we got there, settled into our hotel and got ready for dinner, it was 10pm, but that didn't stop us. Since the Yankees were playing in the ALCS, I of course wanted to eat in a place that had the game playing. We ended up going to The Glass House Tavern on West 47th Street. I got the lamb bolognese and he got the lamb shank, but the highlight of our meal was the sesame crusted tuna nicoise, which Hum-z so conveniently read many good reviews about on Yelp. Also, the Russian Chardonnay we had was amazing!

We spent Saturday at the Hell's Kitchen Flea Market, something we have been trying to check out for months and have always missed it. (It runs every Saturday and Sunday from 9-6pm.) We had gone with the anticipation of "maybe" finding some cool side tables, but there wasn't much furniture, only a few tents-worth. There was a lot of cool jewelry, and I would have bought all of it if Hum-z didn't stop me. I think my favorite things were the expansive collection of printing press stamps and vintage wooden boxes/candle stands. Although I didn't buy any, I did make off with three "pashmina" scarves!
We then headed back to the hotel to check out the rooftop terrace, which just happened to be right-smack-dab next to the Empire State Building! Sweet deal! I took SO many pics up here.

On Sunday we explored 5th Avenue up to Bryant Park, stopped for cupcakes at Crumbs and then subwayed down to Soho. I set a mission for myself of finding some cute riding boots that actually fit my 13.5in circumference calves. I failed that mission miserably, but cheered myself up with yet another box of chicken and rice. Yum! Then, like that, it was over, and we were headed back to the real world of jobs/responsibilities. Overall, it was the best weekend ever with the best boy ever! Happy 6 years HG!
