Lazy Hurricane Sandy Monday

Lazy Hurricane Sandy Monday.  Can't get to work, and while the power is still on, I figure I'd post some fun interactive graphics websites before I start my Hurricane to-do list of  "manicure, read my Justin Timberlake/Jessica Biel wedding issue of People, nap, and eat junk food".  All have been brought to you by: How About Orange

Radvent, Day 8 - CREATING

I'm finally caught up with the Radvent schedule!

Choose an object to symbolize your creativity and put it in a place you can see it every day.

This is a sculpture that I made for my first advanced studio in college. This is one of the only things from architecture school that I still have and display proudly. The assignment was to define a cube by using volumes. This assignment got me to think outside of the box and it also helped me to understand architecture as a volume, not just floors and walls. In the background is one of my marker sets. (This one is actually Hum-z's, but we share.) As a designer, I use color every day, whether I realize it or not. I even conducted a graduate semester-long project on how we perceive color. It was one of my favorite projects during grad school because I got to collect all of the data myself. I can't design anything without thinking about my color palette.

Just a lil something I've been working on...

I love to draw/color, and I definitely don't do it enough. While I cannot take all the credit, I was inspired by this large-scale Marimekko wall hanging I found about a month ago at CB2. Here's my latest creation: (Click on it for original.)

My First Post

I don't really know what to say, so I'll just post some pics from my latest design project. The assignment was part of my DSGN:100 Intro to Graphic Design class. The assignment was to create compositions based on the six design elements: color, line, texture, value, size, and shape that would be turned into cards with the original image on one side, and the manipulated image on the other side. Then we had to make an origami box to house the cards. My group's topic was nature, so we had to use images that we took from nature to create our composition.
